Looking Outside is for curious people looking for a fresh take on familiar topics, in business and beyond.
Every organization, at some point, has their ethical boundaries tested. But there is a difference between an organization with ambition and drive, and one that pushes its people into unrealistic, unhealthy and disastrous behaviors in order to succeed. Today we’re talking about the slippery slope into destructive and dangerous corporate behavior, with professor of business ethics at HEC Lausanne, Guido Palazzo. Guido says the patterns into darkness are obvious, completely avoidable ... and quite counter to what we’re told makes for a successful corporate culture in business schools.
To look outside, Guido turns to history, to the beautiful and the horrible things that happened in times past. He says there is much we don’t see, including the good stories which are often silent and unseen.
Guido is Professor of Business Ethics at HEC Lausanne. In his research he investigates the mechanisms of (un)ethical decision making in organizations.
Guido has trained leadership teams and boards of numerous corporations in Europe, Asia, North and South America. He has directed a program on sustainable leadership for high level civil servants (Vice Ministers) of the Chinese Communist Party. His MOOC (massive open online course) on “unethical decision making in organizations” had more than 50.000 participants so far.
